How we built this house

Hauskaa started out as a way to take home the places we love and remind us of all the fun memories created there.

You know that special feeling you get when you go to a place you love? Driving up the gravel road, the tires crushing as your heart beats excitedly. Breathing the pine-scented fresh air with a smile on your face. Looking out over a clear blue lake, taking in the houses and realizing that nothing has changed since you’ve left.

Everyone has been in love at some point in his or her life, but this is a different kind of love. Falling in love with a place fills up your heart with a sense of being home, no matter how long it’s been since you’ve left. A vacation spot, the family farmhouse where you spend holidays, or your favorite nook on the porch to read in your own backyard, everyone has a place where they feel as though only good things happen.

Here in Vermont, we make beautiful, hand-crafted little wooden houses so you can always enjoy your special place, even when you can’t be there.

What is Hauskaa?

Hauskaa Design, LTD. Co. is a Vermont-based, decorative accessory company using classic shapes to house hip, fun design in upcycled materials. Collectible and customizable, Hauskaa lets you take home the fun places you love. We use classic, vintage shapes infused with fresh, contemporary, Nordic-inspired design to suit enlightened lifestyles.

Home is something I can really get behind. It’s kinda the best thing ever.

I’m a person who can make a home anywhere—whether its a 1792 farmhouse in Burke, Vermont, an apartment in a converted Jugend villa in Helsinki, Finland, a row house in Windsor, England, or a traditional grass Nyakatsi in Ruhango, Rwanda. Just include all things cozy. Add some simple pleasures- candles are key- and an object or two that has meaning. Throw in some downtime and a dose of genuine self-care of whatever makes you happy. Give yourself permission to cozy up and take cover with the people you love most.

Hauskaa houses were created to embody this feeling. It is a specialty gift that spreads joy, appreciation, and happy memories. Make it the gift of choice for loved ones or to brighten up your own day.

 

The Place

If there's one place you could go in the USA and feel like you're stepping back into a more idyllic time, this has got to be it. Vermont is a special place. With its handsome barns overlooking grazing cows in rolling pastures, white country churches punctuating hillsides of blazing maples, and small villages clustering around gracious greens, Vermont is about as tranquil a view as we could ever imagine.  It looks like a painting. But nope, this is real life, folks.
